    Sanogo ‘almost quit’

Ex-Arsenal flop Yaya Sanogo revealed he almost quit football after a medical misdiagnosis threatened to wreck his career.

All the details of the contract were tied up. It was during the Covid time, after I’d had three seasons with Toulouse.

I went to Middlesbrough for my medical, and they claimed to have seen a problem with my shoulder that needed an operation and three months of rehab.

So bang went my contract. It was a serious matter, and tough for me. I went to see a shoulder specialist back in France. They told me I had no problems, and said the club had got it wrong.

It halted my progress, as other clubs thought that I was injured, and the media wrote that I had failed my medical.

So the clubs that had shown interest in me believed these reports, and it brought my career to a complete halt. I was 27 at the time. I thought of quitting. I sometimes thought my career was dead.

    Smith Rowe denied farewell

Arsenal ace Emile Smith Rowe was denied a farewell as he was left on the bench for the pre-season draw with Bournemouth.

This comes as Fulham have agreed a club record £37million deal to bring Smith Rowe to Craven Cottage.

Mikel Arteta all-but confirmed the playmaker's departure when asked why he was benched as he said: "There are things happening in the background at the moment.

"We decided the best thing to do was to keep him away from the game today.”

    Arsenal 'don't need' Calafiori

Louis Saha told Paddy Powerthat Arsenal don't need Riccardo Calafiori.

Riccardo Calafiori played well at the Euros, but Italy didn’t have a great tournament.

With William Saliba and Gabriel [Magalhaes], I don’t see the need for Riccardo Calafiori.

Of course they need cover but Arsenal had one of the best defences in the league last season and they were really strong.

    White's Bournemouth mind games

Arsenal ace Ben White angered Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto with more “s***house” corner tactics during their pre-season friendly.

Video footage captured the moment the Cherries attempted to defend a free-kick, with White causing havoc in the box.

The versatile defender stood right behind Neto, who complained to the ref about his proximity.

Bournemouth ace Milos Kerkez then attempted to put himself between the right-back and the Brazilian.

And a hilarious chase then ensued as the England international and Kerkez ran in speedy circles around Neto as the ball was delivered.

White managed to shake off the Hungary international before wrapping his arms around the keeper while he was attempting to jump.

This angered the goalie, who immediately charged towards the Arsenal ace before shoving him.

    Fabian Ruiz 'talks'

Arsenal have opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain for Fabian Ruiz during the summer transfer window.

According to transfer insider Duncan Castles, the Gunners have made a move for Ruiz but a bid will depend on Mikel Arteta moving another midfielder first.

Arsenal have initiated discussions with Paris Saint-Germain for Spain international midfielder Fabian Ruiz.

The discussions are dependent, I’m told, on Arsenal moving a player out from midfield.

It’s likely that if they are to come to a agreement with PSG on a transfer fee that it will be structured in the same way as the deal they used to bring David Raya from Brentford last summer, in the sense of it being a loan with an obligation to buy a year later.

Thiago blow puts Toney exit at risk

EXCLUSIVE:BRENTFORD have been left sweating over Igor Thiago’s knee injury which could complicate plans to sell Ivan Toney, writes TOM BARCLAY.

Striker Thiago, 23, joined for £30million this month from Club Brugge with a view to beingToney’sreplacement.

But the record signing hurt his meniscus during theBees’5-2 win over Wimbledon on Saturday, despite scoring twice.

Brazilian Thiago will have further scans next week to determine the extent of the damage.

Meniscus injuries can vary in severity with relatively minor ones leaving a player sidelined for four to eight weeks.

But a bad tear can be four to six months.

Should scans reveal it to be the worst-case scenario, that could have an impact on Toney.

TheThree Lionsforward, 28, has less than a year left on his Bees contract and would like to leave to play at a higher-profile club.

Brentford were looking to cash in during this window rather than lose him for nothing in June.

    Kiwior gearing up for Emirates

Jakub Kiwior is said to be readying himself for a possible Arsenal exit.

And Kiwior, 24, has already struggled to win a regular place since arriving at the Emirates from Spezia in January 2023.

Inter Milan have been regarded as frontrunners.

'Crazy to sign Watkins but perfect for Arsenal!'

Arsenal have been told Ollie Watkins would be a perfect recruit - thanks to Martin Odegaard.

Ex-Gunners defender William Gallas believes the Aston Villa striker would thrive at the Emirates because of Odegaard's passing and playmaking.

Gallas told Gambling Zone: "If you bring in a player who is 28 years old, people will tell you he's too old. It’s crazy but its true!

"I really like the Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins – I think he would be a great signing for Arsenal and I’ve been told that he supported the club as a boy.

"I like him because I like his movement. Arsenal need a player like him, someone that can create space for his teammates. I'm sure he could form a great partnership with Martin Odegaard, because that boy can move very well. He makes runs at the right time.

He would definitely score 20 goals playing in this Arsenal team. He got 19 in the Premier League last season playing for Villa. He would score goals for fun if he played with top quality players!"
